Aurora man charged with injuring crying infant

A 25-year-old Aurora man has been charged with felony domestic battery and other crimes after injuring a 7-week-old girl who would not stop crying, police said Thursday.

Julian G. Anderson, of the 800 block of Garfield Avenue, also has been charged with aggravated battery, misdemeanor domestic battery, child endangerment and obstructing police, authorities said. The infant was a relative.

Doctors at an Aurora hospital contacted police Monday after Anderson brought the infant to the emergency room for a persistent fever, authorities said. Doctors said they noticed signs of abuse on the girl's face and back.

Police said they believe Anderson grabbed the baby's face and squeezed her cheeks, placing one of his hands over her mouth when she would not stop crying. He also shook the baby in recent days.

Police said the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is assisting in the investigation.

Anderson lied about his identity during the investigation in an attempt to avoid arrest on two active warrants, police said. He was wanted on domestic battery charges in DeKalb County and burglary charges in Kane County.

Anderson is being held in lieu of bond at the Kane County Correctional Center in St. Charles.
