Northwestern women defeat No. 21 Nebraska 59-51

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) - Nia Coffey scored 17 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked four shots to lead Northwestern to a 59-51 victory over No. 21 Nebraska on Wednesday night.

Lauren Douglas scored 15 points off the bench for the Wildcats (20-6, 10-5 Big Ten), who have won six consecutive games. Ashley Deary and Karly Roser each added 10 points. Coffey turned in her sixth straight double-double.

The Cornhuskers (18-8, 8-7) made just 3 of 28 shots, including 0 for 9 from 3-point range, to trail 29-12 at halftime. They finished 19 of 65 for 29.2 percent.

Tear'a Laudermill led Nebraska with 20 points and Natalie Romero added 13. Emily Cady had 12 rebounds.

The Cornhuskers were down 19 points in the second half when they went on an 11-0 run to trail 46-38 with four minutes remaining. They trailed by six with two minutes left but couldn't close the gap further.

Nebraska announced that junior guard Rachel Theriot will undergo season-ending surgery on her left ankle Thursday.

Theriot, a first-team All-Big Ten and Associated Press honorable mention All-American last season, started Nebraska's first 21 games this season and was the team's leading scorer at 16.5 points per game. She has missed the last five games with the injury suffered during a practice, a stretch in which the Cornhuskers have lost four times, three to Top 25 opponents.
