Scholarship for youth leadership:

The Illinois Sheriff's Association is awarding scholarships to cover the cost for the annual Cebrin Goodman Teen Institute on Substance Abuse. The five-day youth leadership conference, sponsored by the Illinois Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Association, is July 19-23, at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. The youth leadership training is geared for middle and high school students who want to learn leadership skills, meet other youth and become empowered to create change in their schools and communities. Participants take a "no use" pledge and learn how to promote healthy lifestyles in their school. Sixty scholarships will be awarded statewide. Applications must be submitted to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, 25 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., Waukegan, by May 29. Winners will be provided with tuition, lodging, T-shirt, workshop materials, recreation and meals. Transportation is not included.
