AT&T burglar gets drug-treatment probation

A Country Club Hills man pleaded guilty Tuesday to burglarizing two AT&T distribution centers in DuPage County.

Darryl Montique, 24, who blames the burglaries on his cocaine addiction, pleaded guilty to burglary in exchange for a sentence of 30 months of Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities probation, which provides substance abuse treatment to nonviolent offenders as an alternative to prison.

Judge Robert Kleeman also sentenced Montique to 180 days in DuPage County jail, which he already has served while being held on $80,000 bail.

Prosecutors say between April 30 and May 5, 2014, Montique stole more than $40,000 worth of computer and phone equipment from two AT&T distribution centers in unincorporated areas near Naperville and Villa Park.

While investigating the May 5 burglary near Naperville, DuPage County sheriff's detectives learned of the earlier Villa Park burglary. The investigation led to the recovery of multiple iPads, iPhones and Toughbook computers stolen from the DuPage locations.
