Seminar Feb. 24 on grants to help business train workers

State Rep. Michelle Mussman, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the Illinois Manufacturers' Association are hosting a seminar next week on workforce grants available to businesses looking to train or hire a skilled workforce.

The seminar will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Sandvik Coromant Company, 1665 Penny Lane in Schaumburg.

An expert from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will talk about the "Illinois Talent Pipeline," a program that offers businesses an opportunity to receive funding to train or hire workers. The agency is able to access Workforce Investment Act dollars to help find solutions for businesses, industry associations and community colleges.

"There are so many federal, state and local resources available to help business owners create and retain jobs," Mussman, a Schaumburg Democrat, said in a news release. "However, they are not always aware of their availability. This seminar will provide information on a state grant dedicated to helping employers retrain or hire a skilled workforce."
