Blackhawks beat Penguins in shootout
Corey Crawford made 36 saves, 25 after two periods, and the Blackhawks defeated the Penguins 2-1 in a shootout at the United Center on Sunday.
Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane equaled shootout scores by David Perron and Sidney Crosby, then Patrick Sharp snapped home the game-winner for the Hawks.
The Hawks improved to 2-0-2 with half of their 8-game homestand now in the books.
Niklas Hjalmarsson scored just his second goal of the season at 3:22 of the second period. He ripped a shot from the point after a faceoff win by Jonathan Toews and a feed from Brandon Saad.
Hjalmarsson's last goal came on Nov. 9 in a win over San Jose.
Crawford has stopped 61 of his last 63 shots in the Hawks' last two games.
Nick Spaling scored for the Penguins at 3:54 of the third period to tie the game at 1-1.
Coach Joel Quenneville's squad now has 74 points and is just 2 points behind St. Louis in the Central division, although the Blues play later today at Florida.
With the win, the Hawks improved to 18-7-3 at home.
Next up is Detroit for a 6:30 p.m. start at the United Center.
