Cuddle up by a fire: Nasty, windy cold weather for Valentine's Day

The National Weather Service is warning of nasty low temperatures and wind chills in the suburbs today.

A “powerful Arctic front” will bring wind gusts of 40-45 mph.

“Wind chills will fall to 10 to 20 below zero by late in the day,” the weather service said.

Then the winds are expected to die down, but temperatures will fall below zero in the evening, still bringing wind chills down to as low as 30 below zero by Sunday morning.

Cook and Lake counties have the added warning of watching for lake-effect snow drifting west, making travel messy with minor but blowing accumulations.
