On Friday, Feb. 6, five Lake County Sheriff's Correctional Officers graduated from the University of Illinois' Police Training Institute Basic Corrections Training Academy. Graduates included officers Andrew Ebert, Geunyoung Pak, Brian Powers, Ryan Scullion and Roger Vines.

Corrections Officer Andrew Ebert was selected outstanding Corrections Officer of the graduating class, and Corrections Officer Geunyoung Pak graduated in the top 10 percent of the class scholastically.

Officers attended training at the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office Jan. 5 to Feb. 6.

The 200-hour academy provided instruction in Illinois state statutes pertaining to corrections, Illinois Department of Corrections standards, defensive tactics, firearms training and first aid, among other subjects.

The corrections officers were hired in December, 2014, and were scheduled to begin their assignments Feb. 9.

Chief David Wathen said, "I am tremendously proud of this graduating class - they were praised by their class members and instructors. I look forward to their successes at the Lake County Sheriff's Office."
