Dann Gire's guide to 87th Academy Awards Feb. 19

Enjoy clips and commentary of Oscar nominated movies at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, when acclaimed film critic Dann Gire makes his Academy Award predictions at the Dundee Library, 555 Barrington Ave. in East Dundee.

Gire, Daily Herald film critic and president and founding director of the Chicago Film Critics Association, enhances his predictions with insider information about the upcoming telecast.

"The academy has succeeded with its original goal, of generating the greatest publicity engine ever created," Gire said. "When the Academy Awards airs on Feb. 22, there will be well over 1 billion viewers worldwide."

Gire's career has included teaching journalism classes at Aurora University and William Rainey Harper College in Palatine. He teamed up with James Bond 007 novelist Raymond Benson to create "Dann and Raymond's Movie Club," a popular, traveling monthly film lecture/discussion series in Chicago's Northwest suburbs.
