New GM/president to run Schaumburg Boomers

After winning consecutive Frontier League titles, the Schaumburg Boomers will have new leadership for the 2015 season.

Andy Viano has stepped down as president/general manager of the club after three seasons, team officials announced today. Pete Laven, president of Salvi Sports Enterprises since 2013, will take over the day-to-day duties as Boomers president/GM for the 2015 season.

"I am so grateful to (owners) Pat and Lindy Salvi for the faith they have in me, the support they have given me, and the things they have taught me," said Viano. "The fans of the Schaumburg Boomers could not ask for better people to lead this team."

Pat Salvi credited Viano for having the "vision and leadership" to make great strides for the franchise in his three years at the helm.

In 2014, the Boomers led the 14-team independent league in per game and annual attendance.

"While I am extremely excited for the new opportunities that await me, I would be lying if I did not add how much I will miss the people I have met and the relationships I have developed in Schaumburg," Viano added. "

Laven steps into a familiar role for his 24th season in professional baseball having served as the interim GM for the Gary SouthShore RailCats in 2014 and GM of the Arkansas Travelers, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim from 2007 through 2012.
