Two dogs killed in Lake Villa house fire

Two dogs were killed in a residential fire in the 700 block of Sutton Court in Lake Villa, authorities said.

Lake Villa Police Chief Craig Somerville said police and fire crews were called to the single-family house about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday for a smoke investigation.

Somerville said flames were visible inside the house when first responders arrived at the scene.

A Lake Villa Fire Protection District spokesman was unavailable for comment Thursday.

The house suffered extensive fire and smoke damage, Somerville said. The cost of damages is unknown.

He said a preliminary investigation showed the fire started in a gas dryer in the house.

Aside from the dogs, no other injuries were reported, he said. The house was unoccupied at the time of the blaze.
