Marlowe Middle School recreates the Middle Ages

Kings, queens, crusaders, jesters and wizards were among the many characters who roamed the halls of Marlowe Middle School Wednesday as the classrooms came alive with the sights and sounds of the Middle Ages.

The 10th annual Medieval Fair was the culmination of a three-week project for the sixth-grade classes at the Lake in the Hills school.

More than 450 students chose, researched and developed a character role from medieval life.

"I think that it is really neat to learn about their (medieval) setting," said Makayla Madsen, 11, who was dressed as a fortune teller.

The students learned about the history and culture of the era through visits to the library and online research.

Each of the students had a booth that parents or fellow students could visit and listen to them present their medieval character.

The students were graded on their presentation, costume and booth.

The school program concludes with a trip to Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament in Schaumburg Thursday.
