Creative Corners preschoolers give back with food drive

Creative Corners, the Des Plaines Park District's preschool program, is collecting donations for the Des Plaines Self Help Closet and Pantry during the month of February.

Susan Poklop, Creative Corners Preschool director for the Terrific 3's, is hoping all of the children participate and understand the concept of sharing and being thankful.

"I can't think of a better way for the children to really learn and understand this than by giving back to their community," said Poklop.

The pantry is looking for donations of nonperishable food items, paper products and toiletries, but high priority items include Ensure, toilet paper and baby diapers (size 5).

To participate in the Creative Corners food drive, drop your items off at the Des Plaines Park District Administration and Leisure Center, 2222 Birch St., in Des Plaines.

The Des Plaines Self Help Closet and Pantry will schedule a pickup after the drive is over. The pantry serves approximately 1,000 Des Plaines families every month and relies on donations of food, clothing and paper products to service their clients.

Creative Corners Preschool will be taking registration for the 2015-16 school year beginning Monday, March 16. For information about Creative Corners Preschool and Des Plaines Park District Early Education classes, call (847) 391-5700 or visit www.DPParks.org.
