Jacobs to stage musical version of 'Legally Blonde'

Get your pink on this weekend, when Jacobs High School performing arts students stage feel-good musical comedy “Legally Blonde.”

Performances are 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12-15, at the school, 2601 Bunker Hill Drive, Algonquin. Tickets are $10.

Based on the movie of the same name, the musical follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery, and scandal in pursuit of her dreams.

Elle Woods, played by Shannon Jameson, is the college sweetheart who doesn't take no for an answer. So when her boyfriend, Warner (Chris Swanson), dumps her for someone serious, Vivienne Kensington (played by Stephanie Fiorentino), she heads across country for Harvard Law School to prove that being true to yourself never goes out of style.

This action-packed musical explodes on the stage with memorable songs and dynamic dances. The cast also features Emily Kucek as Paulette and Adam Huckeby as Emmett.

The show has a strong production team and is directed by Rob Sharlow, educational director at the Stage Door Manor. It is produced by Jake Stouffer with musical direction by Gregory Matushek, costume design by Sarah Weinstein and choreography by Jessica Lynn.

“Legally Blonde” has music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin, along with a book by Heather Hach. The story is based on the novel “Legally Blonde” by Amanda Brown and the 2001 film of the same name.
