Janesville man accused of drunken driving in fiery crash

JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) - A 23-year-old Janesville man accused of drunken driving caused a power outage and highway closure after striking a utility pole.

According to the Rock County Sheriff's Office, first responders found a vehicle on its side and live power lines hanging from a broken pole when they arrived on the scene near Janesville on Saturday night. A press release says the collision caused a large amount of electrical sparks and flames.

Authorities say the driver was uninjured and arrested after failing a field sobriety test. He was cited for possessing open intoxicants in a vehicle and driving too fast for conditions.

Nearby homes lost power for several hours and a portion of U.S. Highway 14 was shut down for more than 2 hours following the incident.
