Congressman to discuss local Lincoln funeral train events

HUDSON, N.Y. (AP) - Congressman Chris Gibson of New York is planning a series of events in his upstate district to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and the passage of the slain president's funeral train through the Hudson Valley.

The Republican from Kinderhook in Columbia County is holding a news conference at noon Monday at the Amtrak station in Hudson to discuss the upcoming events, which include a film screening, lectures and exhibits.

Gibson will be joined by local officials and leaders of the Lincoln Train Commemoration Committee.

After Lincoln was assassinated in April 1865, his funeral train traveled north to New York City. From there it went through the Hudson Valley to Albany, where it continued west to Buffalo and eventually to his burial place in Springfield, Illinois.
