Man to plead guilty in shooting gun near crowd in Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - An Illinois man is expected to plead guilty to shooting a gun near a crowd of people in eastern Iowa.

The Telegraph Herald (http://bit.ly/1IBoWGJ ) reports an attorney for 24-year-old Blake M. Maurer of Freeport, Illinois, filed Wednesday a notice of intent to plead guilty. He's charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Dubuque, Iowa, police arrested him after witnesses said he pulled out a handgun in August and shot it into the air while arguing with a man outside a residence. Police say he then pointed the gun at others, crossed the street and fired the gun into the air several more times.

The criminal charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
