US Bowling Congress Masters expected to benefit Green Bay
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - The United States Bowling Congress Masters is expected to be a boon to the Green Bay economy.
The Press-Gazette Media reports (http://gbpg.net/1C9DyV3 ) more than 300 bowlers from throughout the world competed last week leading up to Sunday's main event at Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley, shown live by the sports network ESPN.
A major on the Professional Bowlers Association tour, the tournament was expected to bring in about $700,000 to the Green Bay area economy.
Joel Everts, sports sale manager for the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau, says bringing the event to Green Bay took almost three years. Green Bay will host five other U.S. Bowling Congress events this spring and summer.
Australia's Jason Belmonte won his record third straight U.S. Bowling Masters Congress title, earning a $50,000 prize.
