Chris Christie event in suburbs nearly sold out

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's planned visit to Rolling Meadows Thursday is set to break an attendance record for the Republican event he'll headline.

As of this morning, 850 people had registered to hear Christie speak at the Northwest Suburban Republican Lincoln Day Dinner at The Meadows Club, Ryan Higgins, leader of the Schaumburg Township Republican Organization, said.

In 2013, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, another possible presidential candidate, drew 650 people, Higgins said.

"Now, we're just trying to rearrange tables" to fit more people into the event, Higgins said.

Christie made several stops in Illinois last year to campaign for Gov. Bruce Rauner, but Rauner won't attend Thursday's event, Higgins said.

Tickets can be purchased at www.lincolndd.org, and Higgins said tickets are still available as long the site is still accepting payment.
