Des Plaines Chamber honors local businesses

The Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce & Industry has presented Community Enhancement awards for the past 49 years. The award recognizes businesses who have gone beyond the norm when building and/or improving their businesses or services for the betterment of the Des Plaines community.

This year the awards were presented to the following companies: Balkanika Restaurant & Bar for remodeling an existing restaurant space, working with neighbors to achieve a compromise for all concerned and adding a new outdoor patio; B's Sweet Bites for converting an existing vacant space into an inviting coffee shop and new bakery for residents and businesses to enjoy; Prairie Chicken Corner Store for remodeling an existing vacant space into a small neighborhood market that adds value to the area and serves the needs of the local residents; MCI Sales and Services for moving an existing business to new location in Des Plaines and remodeling and improving a vacant space; Walmart Neighborhood Market for locating in Des Plaines and occupying a vacant store front, creating new jobs and supporting local Des Plaines nonprofits through grants of $500 to $1,000.
