Machesney Park gets full-time public safety coordinator

MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (AP) - The northern Illinois village of Machesney Park has a new, full-time public safety coordinator.

The Rockford Register Star reports (http://bit.ly/1C8HhVp ) that Winnebago County Sheriff's Office veteran Doug Bushman has taken the roll. The 52-year-old has worked the village's streets as a detective and a sergeant. Now he's the village's top law enforcer.

Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana terminated the village's part-time safety coordinator's contract in January. Caruana opted to replace the position with a full-time coordinator job.

The sheriff says he was looking for someone who could develop the position, analyze program and make sure local law enforcement were properly serving the community.

Machesney Park has about 23,000 residents. It's located just north of Rockford.
