Dundee-Crown takes regional girls bowling title
The Dundee-Crown girls bowling team won a regional championship on Saturday, while Jacobs advanced to the next round of the IHSA state tournament series as well.
Dundee-Crown's 5,037 pinfall nipped St. Charles North by 1 pin at the Westminster Christian regional, which was held at Poplar Creek Bowl in Hoffman Estates.
Jacobs had a 4,966 to finish third with St. Charles East also advancing to next Saturday's Rockford Guilford sectional at Don Carter Lanes in Rockford.
D-C was led by sophomore Taylor Gonio, who rolled a 1,155 for the six games. Junior Angie Tripp had a 1,089 for the Chargers while junior Brittany Mueller came in with a 1,026. Other members of the team were senior Micki Frey, sophomore Aleana Fribbley and sophomore Grace McLain.
Senior Mariclare Daniels led Jacobs with a 1,093. Senior Carlee Fosco had a 1,074, sophomore Marie Beyer a 1,052 and junior Kaitlyn Columbia a 980. Also competing for the Golden Eagles were seniors Cheyenne Matthews, Amber Ahrens and Kaitlin Adkins and junior Xenia Cabrera.
Fox Valley area bowlers to advance as individuals included senior Megan Sass (Huntley; 1,097), senior Shannon Walsh (Huntley; 967), sophomore Nicole Ciccione (Huntley, 948); junior Stephany Barton (Burlington Central, 947); sophomore Lizzy Barton (Burlington Central, 933); senior Jordan Dick (Larkin, 927); sophomore Olivia Cassata (Burlington Central, 912); sophomore Giovanna Gutierrez (St. Edward, 874) and senior Katie Collins (Elgin, 870).
St. Charles East senior Erin Heuer was the individual champion with a 1,205.
At Palatine: Streamwood junior Jordan Ankenbrant had a 1,042 to advance as an individual out of the Palatine regional. She will compete at next Saturday's Rolling Meadows sectional.
