86th annual women's state bowling tournament begins in Lake County

Lake County rolled out the red carpet and bowling balls Saturday to kick off the 86th annual women's state bowling tournament.

The Lake County United States Bowling Congress Women's Bowling Association is hosting the tournament and held the opening ceremony at Lakes Bowl in Round Lake. The tournament runs on weekends through April 26, but no competition will take place on Feb. 21-22 and April 4-5.

The team competition is at Lakes Bowl, while the doubles and singles tournaments will be played at Lakeside Lanes in Mundelein.

The tournament, which will see several thousand bowlers and their families from across the state packing into the two bowling alleys, returns to Lake County after 55 years. It was first held in Waukegan in 1934 and again in 1959.
