ECC Musical Theatre goes "Crazy for You" Feb. 21-March 1
Elgin Community College Musical Theatre will present its spring production of the Tony Award-winning musical, "Crazy for You: The New Gershwin Musical," from Saturday, Feb. 21 through Sunday, March 1, in the Blizzard Theatre, located in the Building H ECC Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The production starts at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays.
"Crazy for You," with music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin and a book by Ken Ludwig, is a high energy comedy that tells the story of Bobby Child, a well-to-do 1930s playboy whose dream in life is to dance. Despite the serious efforts of his mother and soon-to-be ex-fiancée, Bobby achieves his dream. This rollicking, romantic, and timeless musical features spectacular dance numbers and classic Gershwin songs including "I Got Rhythm," "Naughty Baby," "They Can't Take That Away from Me," "But Not for Me," "Nice Work if You Can Get It," "Embraceable You" and "Someone to Watch Over Me." ECC professor John G. Slawson, DMA, is the artistic and musical director. The musical is directed and choreographed by Konnie Kay.
"First and foremost, there's just nothing like this music," says director Konnie Kay. "It's the best classic musical theater music. The story is charming and funny, and the dancing is sensational. 'Crazy for You' is one of my favorite shows, because it mixes the old and the new. It's timeless and attractive to people of all ages. It's such a feel good show and we all need that right now."
Members of the cast hail from Algonquin, Arlington Heights, Bartlett, Crystal Lake, Elk Grove Village, Huntley, Hanover Park, Naperville, South Elgin, St. Charles, Streamwood, and West Dundee.
Tickets are $20 or $18 for seniors and students. Tickets for all performances in the ECC Arts Center are available online at tickets.elgin.edu or at the ECC Arts Center box office.
