Shelter offers spay/neuter discount during February

February is National Spay/Neuter Awareness Month. Did you know there are about 70 million stray/homeless dogs and cats living in the U.S.?

Each year, only 6 to 8 million are brought to animal shelters, and 3 to 4 million are lucky enough to find a home. Still 10,000 healthy/treatable cats and dogs are euthanized in shelters every day simply because there just are not enough pet adoptions.

To prevent unwanted litters, Anderson Animal Shelter, 1000 S. LaFox St. (Route 31) in South Elgin, offers a low-cost spay/neuter program. They are offering 10 percent off the regular prices this month. This only applies to spay/neuter surgeries.

To make an appointment for your pet, call (847) 697-2880, ext. 34, or email neuteryourpets@andersonanimalshelter.org or fill out the online form at www.andersonanimalshelter.org.

Cost to neuter is $75 for small dogs (under 20 lbs.), $100 for medium-sized dogs (20-50 lbs.) or $125 for large (over 50 lbs.). There is an additional $75 fee for dogs over 100 pounds.

Cost to spay is $100 for a small dog (under 20 lbs.), $125 for medium size (20-50 lbs.), or $150 for large (over 50 lbs.) There is an additional $100 fee for dogs over 100 pounds.

The cost for cats is $50 to neuter or $75 to spay.

An additional charge may be assessed for nonroutine surgeries such as cryptorchid, in heat, hernia repair, etc.

Other services are available during spay/neuter appointment, including:
