Next season's Serie A leaves time for Euro 2016 preparation

MILAN (AP) - Next season's Serie A will begin Aug. 23 and end on May 15, 2016, meeting a request from Italy coach Antonio Conte to leave enough time to prepare for the European Championship.

The 2016 tournament in France begins June 10.

Conte has been at odds with club officials reluctant to release players for short training camps. One such camp scheduled for next week was canceled following resistance from some clubs.

Serie A president Maurizio Beretta also announced Friday that the Italian Super Cup will be held Aug. 8 at an unnamed city in China, with provisions allowing for changes if one of the qualified teams is involved in UEFA playoffs.

Also, goal-line technology received preliminary approval for next season, with final clearance expected next week.
