I captured this shot of the milkweed seeds, actually known as the "coma," along the bike path in the Algonquin wetlands. James Paskiewicz of Algonquin
A humming bird fuels up for the long flight to the southwest at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe late last fall. Fred Share of Arlington Heights
I took this photo of clumps of algae and I call it "algae art". It is actually just clumps of algae I saw floating in the lake at Lincoln marsh in Glen Ellyn IL. The strands of algae reminded me of brush strokes in an old impressionist style painting. Thank you for your time and consideration. Steve Surdynski of Aurora
This photo was taken at Sinks Canyon State Park in Wyoming. The Popo Agie River passes through the canyon and what you see in this shot is the river disappearing into an underground cave (The Sinks). Approximately a half mile later it reappears at the "Rise". Tony Pocewicz, of Carpentersville
This was taken in Puerto Rico, in the rain forest. It just started to pour and I had one shot before we were all drenched. The snapshot caught the mist and the layers of green that are so characteristic of the rain forest. I'll always remember that experience and its beauty. Sherry Bryant, of Naperville
A cardinal sits on a bird feeder in Island Lake last month. Joan Farrell of Island Lake
A man paddles in a sea kayak through the local estuaries at Pine Island, Florida on January 21as he makes his way by mangrove trees overhanging the water. Joni Wachta of Lake Zurich
A 1939 Chevrolet peeks out from a blanket of snow in Des Plaines last month. Ken Juranek of Des Plaines
Tulips in the Snow - Spring is coming. My wife gets tired of winter, so I try to cheer her up with flowers. I hope that the photo of tulips on our back deck will cheer her up. Jim Plueddemann, of West Chicago
The day after the Super Bowl blizzard, the sun came out and started to melt the mountain of snow blanketing the area. This small icicle clung to a bench on our porch. Water droplets were gliding off the icicle as the sunlight slowly melted it. I used a 90 mm macro lens with a speedlight flash to "freeze" a droplet in motion. I framed the photo with the asphalt driveway in the background to provide a high contrast photo to isolate the subject. Angela Cichosz, of Carol Stream
