Prison for Streamwood man who crashed car into school

A Streamwood man who crashed his car into a Hoffman Estates school last year pleaded guilty to driving drunk, among other charges, court records show.

In exchange for his guilty pleas to aggravated DUI and driving on a revoked or suspended license, Jonathan Carlos Hernandez was sentenced to one year in prison and ordered to pay $1,849 in fines, according to court records.

Authorities say Hernandez, 23, was fleeing a police officer trying to make a traffic stop when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the Eisenhower Junior High School gymnasium at about 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 25, 2014.

No one was at the school at the time of the crash, police said.

Hernandez, who received credit for 99 days in custody, must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
