Rolling Meadows Park District executive director wins state award

Amy Charlesworth, executive director of the Rolling Meadows Park District, won the Illinois Park and Recreation Association's Professional of the Year Award, given to those in the field who have made an impact in the community they serve. Charlesworth has been with the park district since the early 1980s, serving as director since 2002. Active in leadership positions, she served as chairman of the IPRA board of directors and has led her agency to receiving the IPRA/IAPD Distinguished Parks & Recreation Accreditation.

• Prospect High School seniors Keaton Keller and Timothy McDermott were named two of the top 20 innovative high school students in the state by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign-sponsored program, "Celebrating High School Innovators". Keller, 17, created a YouTube channel based on technology with the goal of educating all consumers on their next technology purchase. McDermott, 17, has played a major role in growing the school newspaper's website, prospectornow.com, with a goal of better connecting the community to the school. As part of the honor, Keller and McDermott were invited to attend a two-day Innovation Celebration in May and will each receive $500 to fund a positive impact project in their community.

• Jeffrey R. Gottlieb, the principal attorney of the Law Offices of Jeffrey R. Gottlieb, LLC in Palatine, is the author of "A New Weapon Against Elder Abuse: Presumptively Void Transfers to Caregivers," an article which appeared in the January 2015 issue of the "Illinois Bar Journal," the monthly magazine of the Illinois State Bar Association. In the article, Gottlieb reviews a new section of the Illinois Probate Act (entitled "Presumptively Void Transfers") applicable to documents executed on or after Jan. 1, 2015, which aims to target unrelated caregivers who take advantage of their positions to convince an elderly or disabled person to change their estate plan to the caregiver's benefit.

• Wheeling native Kelsey Schauer, a general music major at Augustana College, Rock Island, performed in a public senior recital. Selections included Schumann's "Frauenliebe und Leben, Op. 42," and Goldrich and Heisler's "Let Me Grow Old."
