Fire damages apartment garages in Schaumburg

Five apartments were temporarily uninhabitable after a fire yesterday afternoon that destroyed three connected garages. Elgin man guilty of assault, faces at least 27 years in prison

An Elgin man faces a minimum of 27 years in prison after a jury convicted him of predatory criminal sexual assault. Prosecutors showed at a two-day trial that Armando Vega, 51, of the 300 block of Shiloh Lane, assaulted a girl younger than 13 between February 2007 and February 2011 while she was sleeping on a couch at a relative's home.
