Harper Symphony Orchestra to perform Mardi Gras concert
Harper Symphony Orchestra will channel the rich New Orleans tradition of Fat Tuesday at its upcoming concert, "Mardi Gras."
Under the direction of maestro Brian Groner and featuring special guest artist Mary Elizabeth Bowden, a classical trumpeter and Yamaha Performing Artist, the performance will include Camille Saint-Saens' "Bacchanale" from the opera "Sampson and Delilah," Jim Stephenson's Trumpet Concerto No. 1 and George Frideric Handel's "Music for the Royal Fireworks."
The concert will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Performing Arts Center on the College's main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine.
Bowden has emerged as a brilliant, young soloist and is highly regarded for her artistry and virtuosity, as well as the clarity, purity and power of her sound. She studied at The Curtis Institute of Music and the Yale School of Music, and was the First Prize winner of the 2012 International Women's Brass Conference Trumpet Competition. She has performed as a soloist with the Naples Symphony, Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra, San Juan Symphony, Springfield (Ohio) Symphony Orchestra and New Haven Chamber Orchestra, among others. Bowden will release her debut album "Radiance," featuring new American works, on Summit Records in April 2015.
