Girls basketball: Week 9 MVP

Burlington Central junior forward Samathna Pryor has earned Daily Herald girls basketball MVP honors for her recent performances.

Samantha Pryor, Burlington Central: The Rockets' 5-foot-10 junior forward helped her team to 3 wins last week, including a 51-37 upset of Class 3A top-ranked Montini, a game in which she had a team-high 15 points including three 3-pointers along with 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists. In a 55-24 win over Johnsburg to start the week she had 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals and in a 78-23 victory over Marengo she scored 17 points with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Pryor entered the week 38 points short of 1,000 for her career.

Claire Gritt, Hersey: The sophomore guard led her team in three straight MSL East wins. Gritt scored a game-high 21 points in a 59-36 win over win over Elk Grove, tossed in 19 with 7 steals in a 77-68 win over BG and topped it off with a career-high 27 points in a 56-38 win over Wheeling.

Jordyn Hughes, Warren: Jordyn rules. The freshman continues to make a huge impact for the Blue Devils. She poured in a season-high 29 points in an upset of Libertyville, and her 17-point effort helped the Blue Devils edge Niles North 62-61 for their fourth win in a row.

Claire Jakaitis, St. Charles North: The North Stars have been scoring a lot of points lately, and this junior has been in the middle of it with three well-rounded games in a row: 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists against Elgin, 14 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists against West Chicago and 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists against Larkin.

Kayla Sharples, Naperville North: A 5-foot-10 senior post player, Sharples wowed with her play in a pair of DVC games. The Northwestern soccer recruit scored 25 points in a victory at Wheaton North, 14 of those points in the fourth quarter to help the Huskies pull out the win. Sharples then added 33 points, 12 in the fourth, in a slim loss to Naperville Central.
