Up to 4 inches of snow after today, 1-2 inches Wednesday

Parts of the suburbs could see as much as 4 inches of snow by time a system moving through the area is finished this evening, AccuWeather says.

Snow, at times heavy, was seen during the evening rush hour Tuesday, with visibility limited and traffic forced to slow.

The National Weather Service initially said areas close to the Wisconsin border could see as much as 3 inches. Areas farther south were to see 1-2 inches of new snow.

But AccuWeather put the total for Tuesday up to 4 inches. Then more snow on Wednesday could bring 1 or 2 more inches.

Highs are expected to remain in the teens and 20s throughout the middle of the week, followed by a "surge of warm air" later in the week, according to AccuWeather.com meteorologist Rob Richards.
