Music notes: B-52s fly into St. Charles' Arcada Feb. 12

Punk-era partyers

I defy anyone to feel blue after listening to a classic single by the B-52s. "Rock Lobster," "My Own Private Idaho," "Roam," "Love Shack" - these songs and more combine the offbeat sound of the band's native 1970s New Wave scene with danceable, high-energy pop melodies. The group will get the party started in the suburbs next week. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. Tickets start at $79. Go to oshows.com.

Still rockin'

The Marshall Tucker Band has been going strong for more than 40 years now. The group, which brought country and gospel influences to its earthy rock sound, scored some big hits in the 1970s, including "Can't You See" and "Heard It in a Love Song." Founder and singer Doug Gray has kept the group active ever since, and the band will perform this weekend in the suburbs. 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Tailgaters Sports Bar & Grill, 431 W. Boughton Road, Bolingbrook. Tickets start at $25. Go to tailgatersgrill.com.

Alt-country star

Jason Isbell became known as a gifted songwriter during his stint with the country-rock revivalist band, the Drive-By Truckers. Now he's come into his own as a solo act. His stellar 2013 album, "Southeastern," earned raves and helped him grab the Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Artist of the Year prizes at last year's Americana Music Awards. Isbell's songs are witty and poignant, and he brings them to life with a warm, expressive singing style. Isbell performs in Chicago next week. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago. $39.50.
