Library offers computer classes for adults

Free computer and technology classes for adults are available at the Algonquin Area Public Library, 2600 Harnish Drive, Algonquin.

From Word I to an exploration of 3-D printing, the library can help adults upgrade their skills and broaden their understanding of computers and technology. The library offers a variety of classes and programs for all levels of proficiency.

The library also offers one-on-one technology tutorials, where district cardholders can book up to an hour with one of the tech-savvy librarians for a consultation on Internet navigation, email tips and tricks, Microsoft software usage, downloading e-books and more. Stop by the Adult Services Desk or call (847) 458-6060, ext. 143, to schedule a time to learn.

Your Library @ Home: Did you know that there are plenty of ways you can use the library right from your home computer? Look at how to download E-books, free music and streaming video from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4. They will also provide a quick overview of the library's range of e-resources, from learning a new language to finding the best new home appliances. Valid library card is required.

Excel I: This is a beginner's look at the basic functions of Excel 2010. Learn to enter data, use autofill and autosum, insert a chart, save and print from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9. Basic computer and mouse experience is required.

3-D Printing: Learn about the library's 3-D printer and how to create your own 3-D projects with easy-to-use software from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15.

PowerPoint: This is an Introduction to PowerPoint 2010. Learn to create a presentation, insert text and pictures, use animations and transitions, save and print from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16. Basic computer skills are necessary.

Excel II: A continuation of the skills learned in Excel I, introducing advanced formatting and multipage workbooks 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23. Basic Excel skills are required.
