Carol Stream's American Litho Launches Year-Long Campaign to Fight Cancer

American Litho, one of the region's fastest-growing commercial printing and direct marketing firms, has announced its goal to raise $20,000 for the cancer fight in 2015.

Proceeds of the year-long campaign will benefit the American Cancer Society (ACS), says campaign leader Frank Arostegui, himself a cancer survivor and member of the ACS Regional Leadership Board for the DuPage (Illinois) County area.

"ACS is a leader in funding research, patient support and education aimed at ending all forms of cancer," says Arostegui. "We're proud to be their partner in the fight to save lives."

With more than 300 staff members in Carol Stream, Illinois and a sales and customer service team in Detroit, ALitho will tap the full power of its workforce to raise funds at Relay For Life of Carol Stream on Saturday, June 27. The event takes place at Ross Ferraro Town Center, at the corner of Gary Avenue & Lies Road.

Joe Bulgarelli, a member of ALitho's sales team and resident of St. Charles, Illinois, has volunteered to serve as co-captain of the Relay team. "We can't wait to get started and we know there will be plenty of support from employees, friends and the community," Bulgarelli says.

But raising funds is just the start, says ALitho President Mike Fontana. "We're going to make sure employees and their families know how to reduce their own risks for developing cancer," he adds. "We're hoping to share some of the tools we create with other businesses in the Carol Stream, St. Charles and Bloomingdale area."

"All of us have been affected by cancer in some way - whether we've faced a diagnosis ourselves or watched a loved one struggle with it," Fontana points out. "We need to support wellness education and programs that provide real help for cancer patients."

Fontana said the company is proud to support ACS programs such as Road to Recovery, which provides free rides to cancer treatment for patients who can't get there on their own, and the 24/7 hotline (800-227-2345) for cancer patients, caregivers, family and friends.

To help employees learn more about cancer prevention, ALitho will host a series of wellness events, including an April lunch-and-learn focused on simple steps to reduce risks.

A cookbook featuring healthy recipes will be published this summer, followed by an ice skating event organized by ALitho employees who play and coach hockey.

The company also plans to field a team for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, a morning walk that will take place Sunday, October 18 at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, Illinois.

"We're planning a series of 'wear-your-jeans-to-work' days and a special pink-out event to get people involved in Strides," says Arostegui. "Throughout the fall we'll share information about nutrition, physical activity, smoking cessation and other ways that women and men can stay healthy for life."

Arostegui is a frequent contributor to ALitho's company blog, where he recently shared the story of his cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery. He will serve as a leadership host of the ACS Black & White Ball on Saturday, February 28.

More information about ACS programs, services, and fundraising events is available at www.cancer.org or by calling 800-227-2345 anytime, day or night.
