Mundelein measures up at Conant's invitational

Mundelein took top honors in Saturday's Conant Cougar Classic, a boys swimming invitational featuring flighted A, B and C heats in each event.

Maine South placed second, followed by the hosts Cougars, Jacobs/Hampshire, Downers Grove North and Huntley.

Mundelein winners in individual A heats included Duncan Black in the 50-meter free (25.79) and Will Garcia in the 400 free (4:30.80). The Mustangs also had the fastest 200 medley relay.

Conant's Cole Aykroid won diving with a score of 409.10, and the Cougars also counted victories from Kevin Courtney (100 fly, 1:04.86) and Tim Song (100 breast, 1:12.82).

Francis Ogaban was a double-winner for Jacobs/Hampshire - 200 IM (2:20.31) and 100 back (1:01.12).

Huntly senior Bryan Haage took top honors in the 200 free (2:03.07) and was second in the 100 free in 55.20, one one-hundredth of a second behind winner Jonathan Ramoska of Maine South.

St. Viator frosh-soph invite: Cary-Grove took top team honors with 281 points in a seven-team field which featured plenty of varsity-level ability.

The Trojans had winners in Ethan Hare (200 IM, 2:11.47) and Nick Jasinski (100 back, 58.37; 100 fly, 57.57).

St. Viator freshman Michael Balcerak broke the pool record in winning both the 50 free (22.12) and 100 free (47.55) as the Lions placed fourth with 185 points.

Prospect placed second with 248 points and got wins in the medley relay with Asher Ginnodo, Jacob Kosinski, Matt Inserra and Nick Partipilo finishing in 1:50.22, and in the 100 breast from Kosinski (1:09.79).

Hoffman Estates d. Lake Park: The host Hawks made it a two-win weekend by prevailing in their second dual meet in as many days, this one a 90-83 decision against Lake Park in nonconference action.

Winners for Hoffman Estates included Jacob Pasaye (100 back), Joey Smiley (200 free), Bartosz Widelak (50 free) and Sean Hawksworth (diving).

Prospect d. Wheeling: Prospect's boys swimming team completed a 4-1 record in Mid-Suburban East dual meets with a 108-78 victory against Wheeling on Friday night.

Prospect won the medley and 200-yard freestyle relays and had winning individual efforts from Alex Jarosz in the 500 free (5:19.35) and Stephen Schmit (diving, 252.35).

The Knights' Sam Gabriel won the 100 back in 53.85, edging Wheeling's Jake Noel in a matchup of two of the MSL's top backstrokers.

Wheeling's Kyle Noel won both the 100 free (49.97) and 200 IM (2:07.43), Nate Reiff won the 50 free (22.63) and 100 breast (1:03.64), and the Wildcats also had winners in Justin Loquercio (200 free, 1:54.86) and the 400 free relay, where Kyle Noel, Loquercio, Reiff and Jake Noel won in 3:22.84.
