Illinois man, 14-year-old son hurt in accidental shooting

MARENGO, Ill. (AP) - Police in northern Illinois say a man cleaning a gun accidentally shot and wounded himself and his 14-year-old son.

The (Crystal Lake) Northwest Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1JXI0w8 ) that the accident happened Friday afternoon in Marengo in northern Illinois.

Police Sgt. Paul Fritz says the weapon unexpectedly fired. The bullet went through the man's hand and hit the boy in the arm and leg.

Fritz says no major arteries were struck and the man and his son were taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock.

Police are investigating, but Fritz says no foul play is suspected.
