Homeland Security advises Indiana drivers be ready for snow

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indiana Department of Homeland Security is advising motorists to make sure they have emergency supplies in their vehicles in case they get stuck in a storm expected to bring up to 15 inches of snow in some areas of northern Indiana.

Among the supplies department officials recommend are bottled water, a shovel, sand or kitty litter in case their car gets stuck, extra blankets and a hand crank flashlight or battery powered flashlight with extra batteries. The department also recommends having jumper cables, chargers for cell phones and mobile devices, nonperishable food and a first aid kid.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for northern Indiana from 7 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Monday and a winter storm watch for central and eastern Indiana.
