Trivia fundraiser to benefit literacy group

The Literacy Connection's 18th annual Trivia Bee Fundraiser will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at the Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin.

The Literacy Connection is looking for raffle donations and for 30 teams to participate in this year's competition. Teams have up to four members. Registration is $500 per team. The event is open to the public.

Last year's event raised $18,495 to support adult volunteer and family literacy programs, as well as English conversation groups, helping hundreds in the community who struggle with English.

Last year's competition attracted standing-room-only crowds as 27 teams competed for, and Judson University won, the coveted Trivia Bee trophy. Members from the top three teams receive prizes and trophies.

The event also features a gift basket and grand prize raffle. Spectators can purchase admission tickets for $5 on event day. Refreshments will be provided. Stew Cohen, Broadcast Media news director and program host, will return as emcee.
