CLC sponsors Black History Month events

A series of educational and cultural events to celebrate Black History Month will be held at the College of Lake County Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington Street, unless noted otherwise. The community is invited to attend the following events.

Poetry in Motion on Feb. 7 in Rooms C003 and C002 at 5 p.m. Phenom will host this spoken word poetry event, which features 3BM, Deanna Dean and Awthentic. This inspiring performance will also include a tribute to poet Maya Angelou and an open mic session. Tickets are free for CLC students and $5 for non-students. Doors open at 4 p.m.

Black Jeopardy: Black History Month Trivia Game Show on Feb. 16 in the Main Lobby, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Black Student Union and the Multicultural Student Center present Black Jeopardy, a fun Jeopardy-style trivia game. Contestants could win a $500 Visa gift card.

Black Inventors Exhibit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 16 in the B Court, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 17 at the CLC Lakeshore Campus, 1 N. Genesee St., Room 008. See beautiful artifacts and other historic contributions from African-Americans.

Salute to Gospel Music Program on Feb. 28 in the Genesee Theatre in downtown Waukegan at 7 p.m. Enjoy an exciting evening of gospel music at CLC's 31st Annual Salute to Gospel Music Program featuring singer Donnie McClurkin, winner of two Grammy Awards, two Dove Awards and the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Gospel Artist. Other performers include Anita Wilson of Atlanta, named one of "8 Rising Gospel Stars" by JET Magazine in 2013 and the CLC Gospel Choir, directed by Charles Thomas Hayes. Tickets can be purchased at the CLC Box Office at the Grayslake Campus, the Lakeshore Campus in downtown Waukegan, the Genesee Theatre and at www.geneseetheatre.com. Tickets are $28 general admission; $23 for CLC students/staff/alumni/Seniors 65+/children under 12 and $33 at the door. For more information, call the CLC Lakeshore Campus at (847) 543-2112.
