Missouri man gets 4 years in 1993 Tremont burglary

PEKIN, Ill. (AP) - A 39-year-old Missouri man has been sentenced in an Illinois burglary more than two decades after he committed the crime.

Jeremy Vishino of Potosi, Missouri, was sentenced Wednesday to four years in prison after pleading guilty to the Tremont burglary in April 1994. The (Peoria) Journal Star reports sentencing for Vishino was scheduled two months later, but he failed to show up to court. He was able to evade sentencing on the burglary charge for 21 years due to apparent paperwork mishaps by the Missouri Department of Corrections.

The Tazewell County State's Attorney's Office renewed efforts this summer to sentence Vishino. After dodging the justice system for several more months, he was arrested on Jan. 2 and booked in the county jail.

Vishino was accused to stealing five firearms and other items from a Tremont home in October 1993.
