Sex offender accused of failing to register

A 32-year-old sex offender was ordered held on $200,000 bail Friday on felony charges that he failed to register.

Arturo Borg, who claims he is homeless but who prosecutors say lives in Arlington Heights, was convicted of criminal sexual assault in 2002 and sentenced to four years in prison, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Shin.

Borg, who has 11 misdemeanor convictions, was convicted twice in 2012 for failing to register and sentenced to two years in prison, Shin said.

His background includes a 2014 conviction for theft for which he was sentenced to 120 days. In 2011, he was convicted of battery and reckless driving. That same year he was convicted in Lake County of possessing drug paraphernalia. He has criminal trespass and disorderly conduct convictions from 2010 and a domestic battery bond forfeiture warrant from 2009. He was convicted of criminal damage to property and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in 2008, and prosecutors said he violated an order of protection in 2007.

Lastly, he has a bond forfeiture warrant for criminal trespass to a vehicle from 2000.

If convicted of failing to register as a sex offender, Borg faces up to seven years in prison, Shin said.

He next appears in court on Feb. 20.
