Libertyville students get a glimpse of career options

Rockland Elementary School's 13th annual Career Day gave students a chance to think about what they want to be when they grow up, with the options including a hip-hop dancer and a zookeeper.

In all, 19 presenters discussed their careers with students in grades 1 through 5 during five 30-minute sessions at the Libertyville school.

"Generally about a third of them (presenters) are Rockland parents. The others are local businesses or friends of family that are interested in supporting us in this endeavor," said Dale List, a kindergarten teacher.

List attended a conference where she learned that if people had not heard about a career by the time they were 12 years old, they would not follow that pathway.

"In past years, I have heard from students that this in one of their favorite days of school," she said.
