ECC to host 2015 Founders' Day celebration

The Elgin Community College Foundation will assist students who need help in achieving their academic goals during the 17th annual Founders' Day Celebration and Luncheon on Sunday, Feb. 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The event will be held in the college's Building C Library and Building B Jobe Lounge, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Guests first will check in at the library at 11:30 a.m. to be treated to an opening reception with champagne and hors d'oeruvres. An upscale plated luncheon follows in the Jobe Lounge at 12:30 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to enter raffles for gifts and prizes, and awards will be presented shortly thereafter.

The Founders' Day Celebration commemorates the 1949 founding of the college, as well as recognizing distinguished achievements made by ECC students, alumni, employees, retirees and other community partners and supporters who have made an impact at ECC and played an integral part in fulfilling the college's mission.

The event's theme, "Some Dreams Just Need a Little Help," focuses on students who need assistance to make their academic dreams come true. In many cases, students receive words of encouragement from family, friends and loved ones, but the need is much greater when they lack the financial resources necessary to continue their education.

Musical entertainment will be provided throughout the afternoon and several awards will be presented.

These include the Distinguished Alumni Award, presented to Richard C. Alberding (Class of 1951); Elgin Community College Friend of Education Award, presented to the Elgin Golden K Kiwanis Club; Exceptional Friend of the Elgin Community College Foundation Award, presented to the Rotary Club of Elgin; and Lasting Impact Awards, presented to Ernie Broadnax, Charles Burnidge, John Fenzel, DeLores Doederlein and Linda Siete.

All proceeds benefit the ECC Foundation Resources for Excellence Annual Fund, providing critical support for the areas of greatest need impacting student success.

Tickets for the event are $75 per person and should be purchased in advance by Friday, Jan. 30 at elgin.edu/eccfoundation. Seating is limited.
