Caring for wildlife: Auction to raise money for Fox Valley center

The Fox Valley Wildlife Center in Elburn will hold its 13th annual Winter Dinner Auction from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Fox Valley Country Club, 2500 N. Route 25, North Aurora.

Tickets are $50 per person or $500 for a table of 10. For reservations, visit fvwc.org.

This is its biggest fundraiser of the year and all money raised goes toward the care and treatment of the animals who come into their care.

There will be live and silent auctions, dinner, games, cash raffle, 50/50 raffle and more. The hors d'oeuvres, cash bar and the silent auction bidding will begin at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:15 p.m. The dinner will feature vegetarian and chicken options.

This year's dinner auction includes an African trip, a stay in Door County, education ambassador Lucy's art work, a family portrait, and behind-the-scenes at Lincoln Park Zoo.

Raffle tickets are $1 each, six for $5 or 12 for $10. Enter your chance to win $250, $150 or $100 cash.

The Fox Valley Wildlife Center is state and federally licensed to care for the more than 2,500 wild animals, including birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, which come into its care each year. Most of these animals have been impacted by humans in some way, attacked by dog or cat, hit by car, loss of habitat or flying into a window.

The organization receives no federal, state or local funding but relies on donations and fundraisers.

Also next month, the Fox Valley Wildlife Center is introducing "Wild Encounters Storytime."

Join the fun reading engaging books related to wildlife, nature, conservation and more. Each 30- to 40-minute class also will include a varied mix of finger plays, songs, crafts, games and a special visit from an animal ambassador.

Sessions consist of four classes meeting at 10 a.m. on the first and third Thursday of every month. The child's caregiver must remain in the building during class time.

These classes for children, age 3 to 5, will have a minimum of five and a maximum of 10 participants.

Each session costs $20. Proceeds benefit the center's work with wildlife. The sessions will be held at the Elburn-Countryside Community Center, 525 N. Main St., Elburn.

Session 1 will be Thursdays, Feb. 5, 19, March 5 and 19.

Session 2 will be Thursdays, April 16, 30, May 7 and 21.

To sign up for your session, email fvwceducation@sbcglobal.net.
