Assistance and Limited Tax Forms Available at Library

Librarians are available at the Schaumburg Township District Library (STDL) to assist with finding resources for tax preparation, however; tax forms are in short supply due to significant government budget cuts. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has provided only three types of federal tax forms to the library: 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ. Two forms per person may be picked up from the Information Desk on the library's second floor or from the branches in Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park, while supplies last.

The library does not have State of Illinois publications, schedules or printed tax forms. A copy of the federal instruction booklet is available at the Information Desk for those who wish to photocopy pages. Five pages of forms or instructions may be printed for free from the three computer stations dedicated for this purpose.

"Experienced librarians are ready to assist with finding the resources and information people need for preparing tax returns," said STDL Executive Director Stephanie Sarnoff. "From helpful websites to printers and guide books, the library provides valuable tools in the tax preparation process. As for tax forms, we must limit the quantities we distribute per person in order to supply as many people as possible. We only have what the IRS has provided."

Sarnoff explained that librarians cannot help people prepare tax returns, but can assist with finding and printing forms and other information. Information on how to receive forms and publications is available at the Reception Desk and Information Desk. Federal forms may be downloaded from irs.gov/forms or obtained by calling (800) 829-3676. State forms may be obtained at iltax.com/taxforms or by calling (800) 356-6302. This information is included on a bookmark at the Information Desk.
