Jets hire Rex Hogan as senior director of college scouting

NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Jets hired Rex Hogan as the team's senior director of college scouting on Thursday.

New coach Todd Bowles also added three more assistants to his staff: tight ends coach Jimmie Johnson, defensive backs assistant Daylon McCutcheon and Ryan Slowik, who'll serve as a defensive line assistant/defensive quality control coach.

Hogan spent the last 12 years in the Chicago Bears' scouting department, working as a national scout the last three seasons after spending nine years as a college scout. He replaces Terry Bradway, who was fired by new general manager Mike Maccagnan two weeks ago along with director of college scouting, Jeff Bauer.

The Jets announced the hiring two days after Brian Heimerdinger was added as the team's director of player personnel.

Hogan, a native of Clarksville, Tennessee, previously worked as director of football operations under Urban Meyer at the University of Utah in 2003 and was with Notre Dame's football program from 1998-2003, the last four seasons in recruiting and operations.

Johnson, a blocking tight end during a 10-year playing career, coached Minnesota's tight ends from 2006-13. He played with Bowles in Washington for two seasons.

McCutcheon was a starting cornerback for seven seasons with Cleveland. His position coach was Bowles from 2001-04 with the Browns, and worked with him last year as a training camp coaching intern in Arizona.

Slowik worked with Bowles on Arizona's staff the past two seasons as an assistant defensive backs coach. He was also the Cardinals' outside linebackers coach in 2012 and defensive quality control coach from 2009-11. Slowik, whose father, Bob, was a longtime NFL assistant and defensive coordinator, also coached four seasons in Denver.
