Former Diamondhead POA president convicted of simple assault

BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - The former president of Diamondhead Property Owners Association President has been convicted of misdemeanor simple assault.

Justice Court Judge Tommy Carver Sr. found Elton Marshall Kyger, 66, guilty Tuesday after hearing from 12 witnesses.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1v8rMgB ) the judge ordered Kyger to pay a $100 fine plus court costs for a total of $242. Kyger has 30 days to appeal the decision.

Court records show Hancock County deputies arrested Kyger after an incident at a POA meeting in May. The victim filed a complaint with the Diamondhead Police Department on May 22, resulting in the arrest.

In the complaint, the victim said she was attending a POA meeting on May 21 when Kyger assaulted her.

The victim did not immediately sign charges in the case, but later did so. At the time, Kyger had two weeks left to serve as POA president. A bond was set at $500 following his arrest.

In the assault, Kyger allegedly grabbed the victim and threatened her after she asked questions about a POA issue, according to the sheriff's department.

Kyger served as POA president for a two-year term.
