Former SIU-Edwardsville worker accused of lying during probe
EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - A former worker for Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville is accused of lying to federal agents investigating consulting contracts he arranged.
A federal grand jury has indicted 38-year-old Kwa Mister of Fairview Heights on two counts of making a false statement to federal investigators.
Mister managed the university's Highway Construction Preparatory Training Program.
Prosecutors allege he obtained contracts with a firm owned by his mother while concealing the family relationship.
The five contracts for consulting services to assist the training program were worth a total of $85,500.
Prosecutors say Mister lied to investigators about the firm's connection to his mother.
The university says he resigned last May.
Online court records don't show whether Mister has an attorney. He has no listed phone number.
His first court appearance is Feb. 9.
